The next single from the upcoming Big Breakfast record South of Mars is due to come out on Friday, 10/3! I wrote “Thick As Thieves” as a means of trying to focus on the bright side of a less than ideal romantic entanglement. If all you got is the bedroom, at least you got the bedroom. A bite of food when you’re starving won’t satiate you, but it’ll at least fill that void for a moment or two. It’s definitely evolved a bit since the time that I wrote it, or even since it served as the title track of my first EP. The groove settled into a Waylon Jennings-style half-time, broken up by a faster and more energetic chorus. That’s the reason I wanted to include it on the South of Mars album, to show how different one of my older songs can feel with the oomph of a full band behind it. The song features James Gedda (myself) on acoustic guitar, harmonica, & vocals, Jack Whittle on electric guitar & backup vocals, Marc Adrian on bass, Kevin Mardirosian on drums, & Ian Gill on backup vocals.
